Hello I hope someone here can help.

I enabled cashing on the OS X server at work. But it doesn't cache OS X internet recovery images or iOS restore images. It only cashes OS X updates and apps.

Any idea on how I get it to cashe the rest?

Thanks

U most setup in Server app down on left panel -> Advanced -> NetInstall.
By default, advanced setup is hided, and U most click first show.

Thanks but it's not Netinstall I wanna use. I know I can set up Netinstall to install OS X images over netboot. But this would not help with the iOS restore images thru iTunes.

But from what I can gather from the cashing documentation it should be possible to get the cashing function to serve data to IOS and OS X restore images.

AFAIK Caching should be entirely automatic so long as you have it set to be available on the same network range your client devices are on.

Caching server has to have the same external IP as clients.

Nothing to configure on clients.

Don't know if Server v5 caches the restore data or not.

I enabled Caching on OS X Server running on my MacMini El Capitan hoping to have it simply cache downloads and software updates so a single download would service all my home computers.

Instead, it seemed to fill the boot disk with garbage within several hours ... taking the normal system image of 113 GB up to the SSD capacity of 500GB within about 5 hours. The files seemed to be all located in /Library/Server/ServerDocs/Data and were hundreds of .png files. Once the disk filled up, the system became unresponsive and slow. Deleting the /Data folder and disabling Caching restored normal operation and size.

Any ideas why it did this ... and how to prevent it while enabling download Caching?

All clients have the same external IP and are all in same IP subnet. So thats not where the problem is. And the server is cashing some stuff. Just not Internet Recovery OS image downloads or iOS restore images from iTunes. Rest is being cashed just fine.

Looking https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204675 it seems you need OS X Mavericks Internet Recovery OS.
Can it be that the used Macs support an older version of OS X Internet Recovery?

It's the same problem no matter what OS X version we try with internet recovery.
