mac mini server with legacy 10.6. all it really does is a file server for W7 clients.
will be reinstalling it to 10.9 server to support file encryption.

in case of a theft etc, i want the data to be unreadable. few questions:

1) server runs in a dark corner without display or keyboard. can i have auto-login with file encryption enabled? server is on schedule to power OFF/ON daily.

2) server has SW RAID1 - mirroring, will file encryption work?

3) server stores data that is shared via SMB for W7 clients - word documents mostly. will encrypted volume work for W7 to access data over network and connect folders (map network drive) ?

thanks for relevant input or different encryption solution if what i'm trying to do will not work with apple filevault.

enable FileVault 2

You will probably save more electricity by letting it go to sleep and only wake up when required rather than configuring to be off all night and on all day regardless of when files are being accessed.
