Hi all. I will try to keep this brief :)
I have a mac mini running Server & all it is doing is publishing various external drives to network & performing scheduled backups back & forth (all data is stored on these externals).
Just recently the missus requested her account to be checked on the iMac (the account has laid dormant for a few years) as she would like to get back into 'Mac'.
The basic problem is thus:
Log in on my account, mount the various externals I want (from server) & all has been good.
Now switch to her account & when the same drives are mounted & switch back to my account the drives have become inaccessible as I now don't have permission to see its contents.
If I eject the drives & re-mount then the same happens the other way!
The server has the ACL's set up (even with 'everyone' to have full control) but when you get info on the drives on the iMac it only has 2x entries:
1. The user (that has last mounted them (either me or missus)) set to: Read & Write
2. everyone set to: No Access

I mean it does work by ejecting & re-mounting, but seems silly to keep having to do this :(

Thanks in advance for all replies :)

It’s because in Unix sets permisssions to first user that connects unless that first person mounts the drive and check mark in Preferences to allow ALL Users access!

Thanks for the reply. Where abouts is the preference you refer to. I had a look to no avail?

Just mount the drive and do a Get Info on the drive and you setup permission with Administrator account!
It doesn't allow that as the Server app on the mac mini controls the ACL's

In the Server Application under File Sharing, try adding each user manually with Read & Write Access.

Have you tried running Batchmod on the shares?

Batchmod – Lagentesoft

I've only ever had to use Batchmod once, but it worked when nothing else did. As always, proceed with caution and make sure you have a backup before making any modifications.

As a last resort, you could try logging in as Root and change permissions from there.

Hi there & thank you for feedback. Yes I have the users in manually & also a group added with both in but no joy (in Server app). I guess I'll just have to run with un-mount & re-mount each time for both users. I guess its no biggie but just really frustrating (especially as my missus who is ex PC user keeps commenting 'I thought Mac's were supposed to be easy!"
