Hey guys,

What's happening?

Got a quick question. It's not a problem at all, but i guess it won't hurt to know a thing or two.

So, I had 500GB HDD on my MBP 13" (Mid 2012) which came with OS X Lion. On boot up, i would get the OS X logo and then the progress bar indicating that the system is being load up. Then would appear the username and password screen prompting me to log in. I liked it that way (for personal reasons).

When i upgraded to Mavericks, nothing changed but when i upgraded to Yosemite, it changed. I would get the username and password screen to log in and then the system would load up.

I just recently traded my 500GB HDD for a 1TB HDD.
I cloned the whole 500GB on the 1TB via USB. Everything went perfectly. After installation, i switched on my MBP and i noticed that the boot pattern had changed again. Now i have the OS X logo followed by the progress bar and then the username and password screen.

It's not an issue at all, but i would like to know why is that.
Is OS X capable of doing such thing as optimising itself to suit better the hardware? (Does that make any sense at all?)

Thanks.

Try resetting the PRAM. It's usually a good idea to do so, following a clone installation. It clears out the old and sits well with the new. However, this sounds like you may have FileVault 2 turned on, which requires a password to enable the boot process. You can check this in the Security Pane of System Preferences.

Yeah you're right, i completely forgot about the PRAM reset! Will do! Thanks!
I don't use FileVault and i just checked to make sure, it's turned off.
