OS X Update Notifications Can't Be Erased?

Well, I don't know how to describe this phenomenon, but when you get a normal notification on the top right hand corner, you can just swipe it away and move on with your day. But with OS X Update notifications, it just comes back a few minutes later. Now, I can ignore it, but unfortunately it obscures some of the windows that I'm using when I need to hit a button near that area. This is so annoying, and apparently there's no way to stop OS X from notifying me on the Notification Center Preferences.

Obviously the solution is to update OS X and move on with life right? But what if an update is reported with bugs, or what if in the future it removes something I may rely on? Why can't I swipe this away for good?

I understand, but that's not the issue. The issue is that these things can't be swiped away for good so they won't bother me again until I decide to update.

This is one of my biggest gripes with the new notifications system. As a videographer I spend a lot of time editing, and it gets really annoying to swipe away that notification every 5 minutes when I am literally not able to update. I would be fine if the notification wasn't intrusive, but it blocks part of the viewer window in FCP. It was a major oversight not to have the ability to turn of system update notifications.

You can. Open NC, and scroll up. There's a toggle there to turn off alerts.
