I finally got around to updating my iBook to OS X 10.2.6 from 10.2.4, and ran into some trouble. The updater has "broken" several of my utilities (Terminal, Print Center, NetInfo, Audio Midi Setup, Installer, and Directory Access). Looking in the application bundles, it looks like the installer replaced the application packages with new ones that contain only the updated files. (So the files that the installer was supposed to update are there, but the files that weren't updated are gone). The "Console" app reports that these programs are missing Nib Files. I've probably done something wrong, but I'm not sure what.
I found the old "Installer" app in the /Applications/Utilities folder of my OS X install CD, manually updated it (With the files from the updater) and it now works fine (I used it to install iPhoto and iMovie), but I can't find the other utilities anywhere on my system discs.
In the "Old Days" of OS 9, I could mount the disk image from the software restore CD and grab whatever files I needed from the original installation, but now that image is split up over 3 CD's and can't be used for anything but a reinstall from scratch (I don't need to do this; the system itself is fine, only the utilities are broken).
Does anybody know where (On my iBook CDs or on the internet) I can find working copies (from OS X between 10.2.4 and 10.2.6) of Terminal.app, Print Center.app, NetInfo.app, Audio Midi Setup.app, and Directory Access.app so that I can get my iBook working properly again?
