Hi there!

I know the web server software built into OS X is Apache web server, and i've got it working well! One of the main advantages of using my Mac as a host would be that I don't need to use an FTP tool to upload stuff, but also because I may be able to use PHP coding.

Does anybody know whether OS X's hosting supports PHP?

OSX is not what you are worried about. Apache is what you install, or is installed, from there you have to turn PHP on.

So how do I do that? Sorry, I'm bit of a n00b with this...

Yeah, PHP 4 is already installed it is just disabled. If you need help getting it to work, just IM me (AIM-nathanbolender) and I'll help you.. It's pretty easy.

Best to do this on these boards so everybody can learn. ;) :)

The few lines of explanation necessary are well within VBulletin's capacities. :p

I've got PHP up and running (yay!) using one of the packages you can download.

However, PHP is really difficult! :(

One of the things I'm trying to set up is getting Flash to write to a file on my Mac (the server). So people can 'post' on flash, which then writes to a file on my MBP.

Anybody got any genius plans on how to make this work?

Just remember to check that your ISP allows you to host sites on your connection and your upstream speed is good enough to support your needs. ie. if your connection is only 512k upstream it will frustrate your visitors. :)

That's a slight problem.

Upstream is 244 kbps on our connection (don't BT provide a fantastic service! Only 5 miles away you can get 4 mbps upload/8mbps download)....

The hosting is more for personal stuff than anything, but maybe I will look into getting the sites hosted somewhere were there is a faster connection (like my dad's store for example)...
