For several OS X versions now, I've had the same issue on two different laptops - a macbook air and a retina macbook pro. Every night I put my laptop to sleep. About 50% of the time, when I wake to use it the next morning, the wifi does not work. If I click on the wifi icon and let it scan for about five minutes it will eventually find my network and I have to manually select it. Otherwise, I have to reboot.

I've searched and tried different solutions and nothing seems to work. I dread taking my laptop to apple because they will likely be unable to simulate the issue since it usually takes some time in sleep mode before the wifi is lost.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I can't remember everything I've done over the past 18 months, but I'm certainly not going to format/reinstall the OS once again.
Thanks.

just a thought; if you're having the issue on 2 different macs, thru several OS versions...perhaps check your router? reset it, or try one of the macs at a friend's, or a coffeebar. or try someone else's laptop or device at your place.

just thinking about common denominators...

I appreciate the reply and good suggestion. I actually bought a new router and cable modem during my last move (six months ago). Both work surprisingly well. No other computers have issues on my network. It's just my OS X laptop. To be clear though, I previously had the MBA, and replace it with the rMBP. My girlfriend uses a non-retina macbook pro on my network and does not have an issue. Weird.

Sometimes my MBPr does not connect to wifi when I turn it on. I click the wifi icon, turn off wifi, click wifi again, and turn on wifi. It connects immediately and I have no further issues.

If you have not tried these yet, a few things that I would suggest trying:
  1. Turn off WiFi.
  2. Remove the network from the system preferences.
  3. Repair permissions.
  4. Reset SMC.
  5. Reset PRAM.
  6. Turn WiFi back on.
  7. Connect back to the network.

Wifi

I download the combo update from Apple, turned Bluetooth back on and the wifi has not dropped once in 24 hrs. The combo says it is a fix for the wifi problems.
