Hi, I use an external drive to share data with others (other people using both pc and macs). I have seen that my mac creates some hidden folders (Trash, Spotlight etc) in the external drive that becomes visible when the drive is plugged into other computers.

I'm worried about my privacy due to this. Can it copy any of my personal information in this way?

It is only system files for keeping track of files in folders. No privacy issues, and they can be deleted without anything bad happening.

Thank you for the reply. If I send a file on my mac's internal HDD to trash, will it be stored in the .Trash file of the external HDD?

No... the .trash on the external would only contain files that were on the external and then deleted and not emptied.
