Took 1 min to download ~800MB. Seems pretty similar, only two things I've noticed so far;

WiFi seems to connect straight away now, so no waiting after I open Safari.
When I log in the images are normal - the background used to sort of move for a split second while it logged in. Seems like a solid stable release.

There is no direct link at this time.

Actually there is. I have them for the PB4 and GM. The GM one is also up on apple's developer forum.

Unfortunately apple have no such forum for public beta testers, and so there is nowhere on the net where the link for PB4 (or previous PBs) can legally be posted.

Only delta update appears to be available at this time...full download through App Store is still stuck on PB3 for me.

I thought even the devs were required to get everything through the App Store?

Do you mean direct link to download the update or direct link to download the full installers? If somebody wants just the update they could probably intercept the download of the software update catalog from Apple's servers and find the URL for the file from the software update servers that way.

So how much different is this from the GM candidate?
I would wager not at all. The build number is just one letter off. Here's my guess: the GM and PB4 are the exact same thing, but Apple still wants to continue getting feedback from beta testers in case there are some important last-minute showstopper bugs they need to squash that come to their attention through the public beta program, in which case they will release a second GM. They aren't calling it GM because the one difference is that for the PB testers they have to include the Feedback Assistant, which is ONLY included (to my knowledge) with the public betas. And if they add the Feedback Assistant to the installer, they can't call it GM because the final build released to the public will not contain that component/app. So PB4 is basically just a special build of GM that includes Feedback Assistant.

Do you mean direct link to download the update or direct link to download the full installers?

Developers have their own forum ( http://devforums.apple.com ) and direct links for beta updates have been available there for a long time. So although the updates are usually available in the mac app store, a developer may prefer a direct download because:

- sometimes the mac app store doesn't work properly

- or they may have several machines to update and don't want to download every time for each machine

- or just make a backup of the installer in case there is a need to reinstall.

Only updates have direct links because they are not tied to an apple id. The full installers don't have direct links because they are tied to an apple id.

Feedback Assistant is also in the developer previews, but in a different place. It is a bit harder to find. But it is pretty useless to developers anyway because if they try to log in with a developer id, it won't let them in.

I've signed up as a developer and public beta tester with 2 different ids. So I can still use the feedback assistant if I want to (provided I log in with the correct id). But to honest, I like the bug reporter website ( http://bugreport.apple.com ) better than the feedback assistant. So even if developers could use the feedback assistant, I think most of them would prefer the bug reporter website anyway.

There is not yet a full installer for PB4 which is why PB3 still appears in the purchases tab in your mac app store.

EDIT: PB3 has now been updated to PB4 in the purchases tab in the mac app store.

Well seems like PB4 is the deal breaker for me. Here's a list of what's broken for me. With the public release not far off I guess I can live with it until then and do a full reinstall.

Dark Mode will not switch back to Normal Mode. Box gets unchecked but will still be in Dark Mode. Restarting results in Dark Mode box being checked.

Serial Number under About my Mac is now showing unavailable.

Can't login to iMessage or Facetime. Getting the error message "Unable to login. Please check your internet connection."

Safari seems noticeably snapper. I was about to switch to Firefox.

Now - Stupid Question - How do I find the Build Number in Yosemite? In all earlier versions it was listed in the "About This Mac" window.

About This Mac | System Report | Scroll on Left to Software | should be in the System Version string.

So how much different is this from the GM candidate?

GM Candidate is Build 14A379a PB4 is 14A379b. Looks pretty close to me!

And in "The about This Mac" Box the word Beta is now missing!

I tried to download and install 10.10 PB4, but it will only download OS X 10.10 (14A361p).

So I installed PB4, now Safari, Appstore, Ping etc can't see the internet. DNS issue since I can open a webpage with IP. I check DNS settings and they are all correct. Looks like my DNS isn't running in Safari and Webkit.

Chrome works though :(

Sadly now I can't download PB4 from app store. GG :apple:

Okay, that clears that up; thanks.

Feedback Assistant is also in the developer previews, but in a different place.
Have you checked to see whether it is in the GM build?

You aren't the only person who has reported that problem, and IIRC it is actually not a Yosemite problem but the fault of some third-party app or something. Can't remember where I read this; may have been on these very forums. A forum search or Google search should give you something to go on.

Not recently. I haven't bothered with it lately because as I said before, the bug reporter website is better.

But it is in the GM build.

Anyway, if you have the GM installed you can find the feedback assistant hidden away here:

/System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/Feedback Assistant.app

In PB4 however it also appears in the dock making it much easier to access.
