X marks the spot

OS X is my dream OS for so many reasons:
(1) Kernel stability due to Free BSD platform
(2) Elegant interface that is truely user friendly
(3) The Dock
(4) Ability to hack on the command line or use the awesome GUI

OS X has really changed my entire outlook on Apple's product line. I never liked the Mac OS - from the interface to the way multitasking only kinda worked to the way you couldn't get to a command line to tweak the system.

With OS X I have elegance, simplicity, power, and limitless access to a command line.

Thanks Apple - Happy 25th Birthday.

X without a doubt.

Reason above all other reasons: stability.

Also: purdy, hackable, user friendly, UNIX based so I don't have to have linux on my machine to do my CompSci degree, column view rocks, my friends kick themselves that they don't have macs when they see me use it, multitasking.

OSX is great! The dock makes it so I don't have to wade through bunches of windows, multitasking means I can run mail, 3 IE windows, system prefs, terminal, and preview at the same time, with almost no slowdown. (It does slow down some if I start up Starcraft in the background, but that's to be expected.) I've even set Bryce 5 to rendering something, switched apps, and kept on working. It almost never crashes, it networks better, force quit works better, and it's a lot more hackable. It also looks better, which is both good and bad because the good looks slow it down. It does need lots of RAM, the best way to figure out how much is to put some in, run for a while, then open terminal and type vm_stat. If there's a number other than 0 next to "page outs" then you need more RAM. I have 384MBs and it runs fairly well on a beige 233mhz G3. Anything equal to or faster than my friend's G4 450mhz should run it great. Also, if you have a dual processor machine, OSX will speed it up a LOT.

Not being able to get on the net in X is wierd, normally it's much better at networking. Do you have an odd setup or something?

the problem....

is that compuserve hasent made a OSX version of its program and thats my ISP and they dont no when they will be finished with it so intel they do i will have to use OS9

X and 9

I think X and 9 are better for different things. X is better in most everything, but games. Not many games have been carbonized yet, but STARCRAFT!!!

OS X

OS X is definitley my favorite. Don't get me wrong. I spend 90% of my time in OS 9, but once Photoshop, Quark, and Dreamweaver are carbonized, I'll be switching like a mad-man. I love OS X.

It looks cooler, it runs better, and it has a command line. I'm not a UNIX junky, but I see the value of the UNIX OS and I'm slowly learning that the command line will change the way I compute.

One thing I love, is that Apple appears to be very responsive to feature requests. When I spend time in OS X, I always find things I wish I had, so I tell Apple... and it usually comes out in the next release. I hope they never do away with the feedback section... and I hope they'll add a feedback section for hardware too.
