Hi,

I work in a small printing firm and we've recently purchased a New iMac running osx 10.11.3.
Since we've had this iMac we've been unable to write to our Windows Server properly and have run into what seem to be permission issues.

Examples:

Trying to save a Word document to a folder in the server returns the following error:
"Word cannot save this document due to a naming or permissions error on the destination volume."

Trying to save an InDesign document to a folder in the server returns the following error:
"Cannot save "Filename.indd" under a new name. The file "Filename.indd" is damaged (Error code: 1)"
or
"Cannot save "Filename.indd" under a new name. The file "CBTmp2498-837082990" is damaged (Error code: 0)"

We can however save to a local disc and then drag these files into the server without any issues.
Once we've dragged these into the server we can then open them, make changes and save the files.

Any ideas as to what may be causing this?

Thanks

While this link is an older one, it should still provide you some useful steps to troubleshoot:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...n/b09492af-3726-4631-b0a8-deb71956d709?auth=1

Generally, there's an issue with permissions on a hidden .TemporaryItems folder on the server volume.

DS_Store files, Temporary folders, write permissions, Active Directory... the issue of Macs on a Windows-based server has, and always will be, a royal pain.

For what it's worth, I'm working with the same setup and I can tell you that at some point our IT guys updated their server software, and messed around with Active Directory setup, and a lot of the same problems went away.

Although, we still run into a problem where you can't save an InDesign file because you don't have permission, or you can't just hit Save on a Photoshop file because it's "In Use," OR you can't delete a file or folder on the server that you JUST CREATED 2 seconds earlier because you "Don't have permission." This doesn't happen a lot, but at least once or twice per week.
