I hope it is free! However, I dont reckon it will be!! If its not free I am not sure I will upgrade! On my dual 1ghz I can do what I want just fine.

Sadly and honestly, as much as I hate to say it, I would think that 10.2 will be a cost upgrade, just as Apple did with 10.1 and OS 8.6 (if I am not mistaken, 8.5 to 8.6 was a pay-to-upgrade situation). If Apple improves on the OS a lot, then I would expect the upgrade to be $20. If Apple severely tweaks the OS and tremendously improves the system, the software may cost $30 to $40. But $20 looks most reasonable in my opinion.

8.6 was a free download. You can still download it. 10.1 was free as well, but too large to offer as a download, so they would ship it to you for 20 bucks or you could go into a retail store and get a free CD. I did that at compusa. 10.2 may well be a paid upgrade, but if it is, it wll be the first paid upgrade that didn't have a x.0 or x.5 version number in as long as I can remember.

OS 8.6 was not pay to upgrade? I only posted that earlier because someone I know told me that when 8.6 first came out you had to pay to upgrade from 8.5. I know that it is currently free to download now.

Were there any minor updates that you had to pay for to upgrade system software before 10.1?

I'd pay for it...

I wouldn't mind paying for the updates. I never paid for 10.1 because my brother in law got a free copy at an Apple Store and I copied it. I plan on purchasing a new TiBook this summer so it might ship with 10.2 if it is released by then.

with all of the speculations...I wouldn't be surprised for 10.2 to have a cost behind it...

just as long as it brings some speed issues to rest I'll be happy! :p

I would hope that people that purchased a new system this year (that shipped with 10.1.x) will get the free update. That is what the coupons included with the computers are for.

The ones that come in the clear plastic sealed bag that came with your system. If you tossed it out, then you tossed the coupons as well. They have been shipping with systems for as long as I can remember. They also come with the retail versions of the operating system (including 10.1).

Cheers, I have found them.

I think it will be free from apple stores but you have to pay for it if you order over the internet

As for OS11 I don't think we will se it until 2010
beacause jobs said OS X will take apple into the next decade

What about Mac OS X 11.0, like now Mac OS X 10.1.4........

Back to topic. I don't think 10.2 will be a pay upgrade. At least I don't hope so. Apple knows they have shipped an unfinished product. 10.2 will correct all that, and will be the last big free upgrade.

Has anyone ever been able to use the update coupons? I tried to use them once, called Apple, and they said I could not use them. This might have been when OS X came out, so YMMV.
