OSX and 9 living together?

Hi!
I have a powerbook G4 17 inch 1.67GHZ.
It is pre-installed wif OSX 10.2 i think.
But now i am facing a problem.
I NEED OS 9!!!!!
It may sound funny but i really need it cause one of the application Macromedia Freehand 8CT ( chinese version ) can only run on OS9 and because of the "chinese" fonts, i am having some problems pathing it.

Anyway,
Tried to boot from a OS9.1 and 9.2 CD which i had but to no avil.
Is it true that this laptop can only run OSX and above?
Is there anyway i can install OS9 in it?
Cause classic dont work for me...

I'm afraid that model came out about three years after the last OS9 bootable Macs from Apple, so it's OSX only. If the app doesn't work in Classic, your only other option is to try one of the Mac-on-Mac emulators and run a virtual OS9 machine to install that one app on. SheepShaver is my recommendation, although don't expect miracles with regards to the speed.

I only have 9.1 and 9.2, which their ROM file is not supported.

SheepShaver creates a volume file on your existing OSX disk, and mounts the file in the emulator as it's hard disk. So you don't need to create a new partition on your laptop. A bootable OS9 CD is the installation CD they are referring to on their website, although it looks like you may have a problem if 9.1 isn't supported. If you can get hold of an OS8.6 or OS9.0 disk, it will install, but don't pay out any money until you know it's working for definite. Do you know any Mac users that may have an old installation CD lying around?

Yep, 9.0.4 works fine. Get the ROM you need from the Apple ROM Update, which is still available on the Apple Support site as a download.

You'll need to use a tool to extract the rom file from the download. I know there's a freeware one available on Versiontracker but can't remember the name of it off the top of my head. You should be able to find someone mentioning it if you google a HOW-TO.

Somebody needs to tell him how to install OS9 as the Classic environment, which runs virtually every old application I've ever attempted to use. It can be done on Macs that do not support OS9 booting.

Thanks IJ, but I think he's already tried Classic looking at the original post. There's possibly a way to get the Classic environment to accept the chinese fonts, but if there is it's not something I would know how to do. Any ideas?

I couldn't tell for certain, but I don't think he has tried to install Classic. Sounds like he tried to boot into OS9. Original poster, please clarify!

Back in the old OS9 days, the fonts which i put in my system folder>fonts can be read by my freehand8CT. When i convert to path, there is no problem.

Now i m using OSX with FreehandMX, the chinese fonts which are in the library>fonts folder is kinda not compatable with freehandMX, thus, i cant convert to path.

Thus, i need a OS9 system running.

In classic, i can get the system to be working, but as for the fonts part, there seems to be a problem.
So i was thinking if there is anyway i can "dual-boot" a OS9 system and an OSX system on my G4 powerbook.

If you really need OS 9 why don't you just buy an older iMac G3 or something like that off ebay for like $50.00? If you were going to be really needing OS 9 which it seems like you do thats the route I would go.

I think I understand. The Classic environment is working, correct? Have you installed the fonts in question into the OS9 fonts folder? Classic can't find fonts in the OSX fonts folder.

My general response is, if it works booted into OS9 it should work in Classic. I've found very few OS9 applications that won't run in Classic.
