I own a i7 mac mini with a Samsung 840 Pro boot disk and 16 GB RAM. While the initial boot feels like it takes forever - close to 30 seconds - loading applications is fast.
Enter my new toy: a Dell XPS 18 "tablet" that I use to read music PDFs. Yes, it came with Windows 8 and here's my problem: the boot time.
I upgraded it with a Samsung Evo 840 but everything else is stock, including an Intel I3 and 4 GB RAM. (I bought cheap because it's only being used to display piano sheet music.)
Even so, boot time is about two seconds as is the shutdown. SOOOO much faster than the Mac. What's going on here?
