OSX Downfall

One of the main problems I have with OSX is shortcut's lately I have been making alias's of the apps and putting them into the apps file in my user (for some reason you have to do that or it does not recognise you have them) that is anoying as hell, so I go to use the shortcut "command m" oh **** where did the friggin window go, oh don't worry this is OSX everything is different you have to press "command L" now for making aliases. You do not realise how frustrating this is as I am so use to the old shortcut keys and now it is so bloody confusing.

Another thing OSX needs is a better version of explorer the current one is a cross between 9 and 10 it looks crap like that you have half the old design at the top then most of the rest is the new better enhanced 10 version like the scroll bars, it looks like a whore from the 80's stuck between the 60's and 70's come on microsoft you can do better you are supposed to now have a whole team devoted to working at building the mac apps, get your act together.

Also today I my control panels wor screwed I tried to force quit it but they wouldn't go away and I couldn't even close the force quit window nor could I restart or shutdown, so I tried to reload the finder from it, sure it reloaded but it also created a new finder icon in the force quit window every time I reloaded it, so much for flawless force quiting.

Other than that everything is good I am begining to like and get the hang of OSX and I have not been using it for long at all though I still need a bit more time until I am familiar with it all. When all the bugs and crap gets sorted out and their are as many apps for OSX as the were for OS9 (do I say were or are I am not sure if anyone is making anything major for 9 any more) then OSX will be the best OS around.

XP does not stand a chance, though I don't really want to see microsoft fall they make real good browsers...
 
One thing I just realised after remembering to try it out is that you can now use the : symbol for folder and file names when you couldn't with 9 this means I can now play onling games like Race War Kingdoms where you have to download an images package so instead of keeping them on their server you have them on you computer this means you don't have to wait for them to load (which if they cached them they wouldn't anyway and their wouldn't be any platform conflicts) and the source tells your browser to that it will find the images on the computer so it look for them their, the problem with this is you have to make a desicion on whether you want your game to be played by people on PC's or mac's of course you go pc's as more people have them so they have a C: drive that so it will look of course the source is going to be "go to file:// in drive c: get images" this as annoying as macs don't have a c: drive and on os 9 you couldn't save files or folders with the : symbol but now with OSX you can so we can all make our own fake C: drives by using disk copy copy a disc "making sure you set it to allow your self to change the name of it later on" then when you have copied it change the name to c: delete what ever is in it and you have your c: drive if you want to play Race war kingdoms or other similar things all you do is download the image package then put it into the c: drive that you have created.

On thing the current explorer does not seem to view the pop up things right, this happend with Virtual pc 4 running windows 98 to though it worked with windows me (but windows me keeps crashing on me so i don't use virtual pc anymore) so all we need now is a good browser and we can play race war kingdoms...

One question I have is when sites have thoes OS checker scripts will it think OSX is a mac os, unix or whatever it is based on unix or linux i don't know (do you? if so could you let me know) or will it think OSX is in the unkown catagory? and will it know that this is a mac?

I sincerely think that your complaint is one of OS X's _downsides_, rather than its _downfall_, unless it proves to be a critically important issue to millions worldwide (it's not).
 
my only problem with OS X

The only serious problem I have had with OS X.1 is that it is slower booting up if you had it plugged it in to a network when you shut it down.

I just think it's cool that it knows to do that.. os x is very smart.. much smarter than 9.. i can't stand going in to 9 any more.. i am so happy with x.

i just d/l'd the freebsd x windows system.. it rocks!
 
I don't use 9 much either, unless i'm at school as they don't run x.

Also does anyone know if their is any anti-virus or norton stuff I can get for x?

I had a great experience the other day with OS X. My school bought a PBG4 667 for video editing and it was my job to set it up. Damn. I don't have much credit now for setting it up as it set itself up. Logged into airport, simple. Found the proxy (I don't know how but it did). Had everything configured in less than 5 mins. And that was out of the box about 10 mins before. Not bad for an OS in any way and sure damn impressed all the PC guys behind me who were watching in disgust to start off with. Damn I want one of those little boxes. Have to live with my iBook.

And XP is dead because of OS X. I can see it.
 
Deus ex is very good.

I dont see who is going to buy XP if so many betas and test versions are out there. every1 i know who has it has got a very recent beta, i know i have.

XP is not dead until end-users are brought to realize there is an alternative. THAT is the core goal Apple must realize.

and who needs a beta version when you could get the final corporate noactivation nonhacked XP in the first week in September??
 
if X is truly similar to freeBSD then maybe the very fastest pcs on the market would benchmark faster on some things but hopefully X would run well enough on most pcs

i would love to see os x on a pc someday
 
Im not sure what you mean sparkleytone but i think you completely missed my point.

The point is, with so many betas going around which are good and free, why is any1 going to pay for the full version.

Maybe you did understand what i mean. im not sure.
