Hello Everyone,

Just today I managed to Airplay perfectly video from my Macmini to an ATV3.

Skip to the bottom if you are in a hurry :)

Here are my findings :

- As many have noted wiring the AppleTv to the router is a must. You will see
great improvements to airplay as well as buffering times on trailers and movies.
(My mini is on wifi due to distance and powerlines didn't work out)
That step eliminated a brief freeze every 10 seconds or so

- Another thing that drove me crazy was the jerky motion every now and then. Some people don't mind it but when viewing on a large tv or projector screen it makes the movie unwatchable .
So here is what I discovered after checking with the Activity Monitor. There is a damned process by the name of Quicklook Satelite General which sucked the CPU usage up to 60%. I tried to kill it. Impossible , it pops right up. So I googled and the solution is quite simple. If you have an open Finder window with movies ( or a movie on your desktop as I did) you are doomed. You have to close the window after you start playback and you ' ll be okay.
Eliminating this process results in butter like motion in 95% of the scenes

- As for the final 5% , this is the slow panning scenes from left to right and so, which still stuttered a bit so I tried switching software : Vlc, Qt7, Plex, XBMC , Mplayer Extended (improvement) and BAM , Movist seems to do the trick.

Everything is smooth and clear from HDTV series to huge 23 gb Lotr movie files
I am finally happy.

Now by just using Rowmote (highly recommended) on my ipad is like having a second Mac on my Projector.

To sum it up

1 Wire Apple TV to the router, it's essential
2 Close every Finder window containing a movie and make sure there isn't any on your desktop
3 Try using alternate software for playback to see what works for you. I settled on Movist

If still you encounter problems you can try a program called Beamer and while its no Airplay it works as advertised with every movie file I've tried

Have fun!
