Any time I'm connected to a network drive on ANY Mac i own, it freezes on shutdown or restart. Just sticks at the white screen with the mouse pointer. Is this a known bug? It happens on my macbook pro and my desktop, both running 10.8.2, and on my dell mini running 10.6.7. It's really annoying when I forget to unmount it, especially because if I'm trying to boot into windows it then had to do a disk check, adding an extra 7-8 minutes to my reboot.

What's a Dell Mini.:p

Kidding aside, I and I'm pretty sure many others don't have this problem, you should look into the gear the Mac's are connecting to, seems more likely that the problem lies there and not with the Macs.

Or, are you booting from the network drive, if that is the case then they will crash if unmounted.

I'm not booting from any network drive, just mounting them to exchange files. My desktop is connected to a bunch of hardware, but both my mbp and my mini do this without being connected to anything. The only hardware they have in common is that iirc they all have bcm 43xx wireless cards.

Still think the problem is not the Macs, well partially, it might be that the Router or whatever device you connect to is causing the problem, might be an incompatible protocol which crashes the Macs.

Never heard of several Macs doing the same, unless there was a severe bug in an OS X version and I am not aware of any at this time.

I have this same issue. Whenever I mount my Synology NAS drive it won't shutdown. Very frustrating!

Well mine (macbook pro early 2011) does the exact same thing: when it shuts down, it freezes and restarts with a white screen. The problem is that my mac is not connected to anything.

I occasionally have the same problem, but I believe it's related to my Time Capsule. It seems sometimes OS X doesn't or can't disconnect from the TC and then I get stuck on the shut down screen. Happened a few times, but very rarely.

My new MacBook air with 8 gig RAM, an i7, and 512 SSD is hanging at a white screen with a mouse on shutdown. Any ideas?
