I'm actually thinking of upgrading my 8800GT (PC card with Mac ROM) since its definitely lagging a big with WoW. Originally I was looking at the 5870 and noticed its DOA on the Apple site and I'm again most likely going to buy a PC card and put a Mac ROM on it to make it work with my MacPro. I'm still likely to go with the 5870 though the GTX580 popped up and I'm already drooling.

Aside from the power requirements and what not is there any groups making headroom on having the 580 work with Mac? - I'm guessing since no Mac ROM's exist if anything for the 580 that I might just be waiting for nothing. I've heard little buzz on insanelymac and a couple of other Mac enthusiast sites about work on it but was curious as to what people have heard here.

The 5870 is now shipping within 24 hours from the Apple Store, and is a safer buy than the flashing route. You'll get full OS X compatibility out of the box.

The GTX 480 has been made to kind of work under OS X, but it's glitchy. Obviously nobody even has their hands on a 580 yet.

5870 is probably way to go since you don't need GTX 580 to play WoW. That's a huge overkill for World of Warcraft.

Honestly the ATI 5770 is probably sufficient. I have one running in my OSx86 box and now that 10.6.5 has dropped have every setting in wow set to ultra with great performance.
