OSX on a 9600?

Somewhere around here...
I have a PowerMac 9600 with 400 megs of RAM, USB, and an upgraded G3.
Is there any possible way that I could make it run OSX? :confused:
I know that it has been run on Quadras, so don't tell me it can't be done.

As far as I know, that's never been done. Although it would be interesting to see OS X run on a 68040 processor....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....ok maybe not :D

It was done by running Mac OS X in an open source PowerPC emulator.

As I recall, it took more than 24 hours to boot. :eek:

As for running Mac OS X natively on a 68k system, it is not out of the question because the original operating system that Mac OS X is based on (NEXTSTEP) was originally made for 68k systems.

Of course, when Apple acquired NeXT they had no need for a 68k operating system. So other than patches for NEXTSTEP 3.3 and OPENSTEP 4.2, Apple dropped anything to do with 68k code from NeXT.

As I recall, the code which Mac OS X is based on was from a test version of NEXTSTEP back when NeXT was still making hardware. They had considered following Apple in a move from 68k to PowerPC. NeXT's hardware business didn't last long enough to see the PowerPC go into production, though they were given pre-production processors which were used to make a demo system.
