OSX reinstall > all apps saved?

Hi,

I tried to reinstall my OSX today because I had some issues with XBMC which are caused by the latest OSX update (pre-Mountain Lion). Anyway, rebooted with Cmd-R and chose to reinstall OSX only to find that after the reinstall, the whole OSX was unchanged, with all apps even still present (and issues unfixed).

How do I do a complete CLEAN install of OSX?

What are the issues, BTW? I haven't encountered any with XMBC (knock wood) yet.

You're going to have to create a bootable DVD or USB drive in Disk Utility, boot from it and wipe your drive using the built in utilities. Then install from the burned copy and you should have a clean install.

No need to do that, although it might be quicker. Hold down the Option key while rebooting and you can go right into disk utility and erase, then reinstall from the recovery partition.

What are the issues, BTW? I haven't encountered any with XMBC (knock wood) yet.

Since last update, when pausing movies the audio is stuttering (well known and documented issue apparently). Also, suddenly movies at random intervals just stop, and then a few secs later play at a very fast rate like it's 'catching up' and then it's back to normal. Usually happens only once during playback, and most of the time in the first 5-10 mins (like it's caching wrong or something).

Most issues should be resolved with the latest OSX version (Mountain Lion), but I'm not sure I want to pay 20$ for it, since I use my Mac Mini exclusively as a HTPC.

Sorry, my bad. I somehow assumed you were on Mountain Lion and the problems were caused since the upgrade.
