I Tried booting of the DVD to install and it just gets stuck in in a reboot circle.

I am now installing normal leopard but want to erase and install server... any advice on how to do this?

Check optical drive to see if it's working.

Contact apple?
Order new disks if disks are scratched.

You could try to do what is necessary to install Leopard Server on the new Mac Pro's, which is to install Leopard Client, do all updates etc, then put in the Leopard Server disk. Can't remember if it is the main installer you click on or if it is in one of the folders on the disk, but you can install the server components without having to boot off the disk.

Once done, do another software update to bring the server components in line with your leopard updates, then reboot :)

I discovered this when I bought a new Nahalem Mac Pro for a client with a copy of Leopard Server. The Nahalem requires 10.5.7 (I think) to boot, but the latest Server disks are only 10.5.4. Very simple and straight forward to do, just a bit frustrating.

If your mac mini comes with Leopard 10.5.5 for example, and you have Leopard Server 10.5.4 disc. It won't boot from the DVD. This is acknowledged by Apple. You will have to do an upgrade from existing Leopard.

- For clean install: Install fresh version of Leopard DVD that came with your Mac Mini. Use software update to update to the latest version 10.5.7 currently. Then insert the Leopard Server and dblclick "Install". The Installer pops up, you will have 2 options to "Upgrade" or "Restart". Just upgrade your leopard to leopard server.

As others mentioned, the problem is that the 10.5.4 install DVD doesn't have the necessary files for the new mini.

The best way to do it is to install Leopard Server to an external hard drive. Then, download the 10.5.7 Leopard Server Combo update from Apple and install that to the external drive. Finally, clone the external to the Mac mini. Starting up will walk you thru the config process.

Someone mentioned that you can upgrade to Leopard Server from Leopard Client, but we've seen quite a few errors doing this. The external drive router is the safest.

Hope that helps.

But for the external drive route you need to have an older machine which capable of handling that disk, i mean the machine must be older than that server installation disk.
