OTB 1.1.2 Jailbreak, just to make it clear

I have an OTB 1.1.2 iphone. I want to jailbreak the phone and from what I have been told is that I can open it up to 3rd party apps, but I do not want to simunlock, I want to keep ATT.

If I activate the phone with ATT right when I get it, will it still work to jailbreak the phone? Also, i noticed that there are all these extra steps to jailbreak the phone where your phone is NOT activated already. What steps can I leave out of the process if mine is already activated?

Its only a problem to SIM unlock a 1.1.2. Jailbreaking only requires 10 more minutes of jumping through hoops than 1.1.1 does. You will not brick your phone. Just activate it through iTunes and use it factory for a few weeks.

There is no garuntee that any level of Jail Breaking won't brick your phone when a new update comes out.

first of all activation does nothing to the firmware but open it up. I recomend googling the specifics on how to downgrade as 1.1.2 is not jail broken.

It may be posible to downgrade prior to activation but i some how doubt it. All i can tell you is that any iphone you buy today will come with 1.1.2 which has yet to be jail broken so you probubly will have to downgrade.

Again, i want to keep ATT as the service, so i am not concerned about unlocking the sim, i just simply want to put installer on the phone to put 3rd party apps. This is possible, correct? (with OTB 1.1.2)

If you want the iPhone plan, then activate the iPhone and contract with iTunes.

If you already have an AT&T plan that you are happy with, then jailbreak and activate it outside of iTunes.

I dont already have a contract with ATT. What I want to know is, if I have a OTB 1.1.2 iPhone, do I activate the phone from itunes to ATT and then do the jailbreaking (downgrade, install, upgrade, etc.) or do I do all of the jailbreaking, and then after its all done, then activate the phone?

Jailbreaking; to open the iPhone up to full read/write access, and allow for the installation of 3rd party applications.

Unlocking; Allowing the iPhone to recognize a non-AT&T sim card, and work off of another network.

Point of clarification, All of the versions of the firmware (including 1.1.2) have been jailbroken (whether they require a downgrade or not).

The headache is unlocking the iPhone at firmware level 1.1.2.

As for the activation, it's only involved in the jailbreaking process if you are unlocking the iPhone. Just activate the iPhone through iTunes, and then follow the instructions for downgrading, jailbreaking, and re-upgrading.

*Edit- I'm sick of reading these posts, so I'm currently creating a script that will run a workflow to do all of the steps of jailbreaking at the 1.1.2 level (downgrading, jailbreaking, and re-upgrading) for you. The catch, you will still have to access jailbreakme.com manually, but I think that we can all handle that.

Yes just activate your phone, downgrade to 1.1.1, jailbreak and upgrade back to 1,1.2
