Delete your iTunes backup and create a new one. Should reduce back to normal size. As to the 'Other'. There is no solution. Only thing you can do is restore to your backup, but 'other' will return. If you do the restore method, make sure to delete your backup and create a new one first. Otherwise your 'other' may be restored because of how big your backup is.

i tried deleting the backup and doing another and it's now 54 GB!

my icloud backup seems to be working fine, and is only about 3 ½ GB. i'm very confused.
