out of contract iphone - which price plan uk?

i've been out of contract for a while now and i'm wondering if its possible to go onto another o2 price plan that will save me money? i'm in the uk. i think i remember something about a contract they do that you can use without signing up for a year that works fine except for visual voicemail

or did i dream it?
