I opened up a sealed iPhone 5 running iOS 6.0 and all works perfectly fine other than there is no sound from the external speakers. I can hear a phone call with the internal speakers and music will play through earbuds, but the keyboard sounds along with text and phone tones don't work. I know this may have been a software issue as traditional fixes don't work. Is there a Cydia tweak that might work? I'm hopeful as otherwise using this iPhone is a joy.

Seems like you might want to make sure it's working in just stock iOS to make sure it's not some sort of a hardware issue. Is it just that the alert sounds don't work, or nothing works through the external speaker? Does Siri work? Does speakerphone when you are in a call work? Does playing a video or music work? Is your phone volume up?

You guys are on the ball. I did attempt the 'reset-all-settings (not erase, of course) without success. SIRI sound doesn't work. Sadly, I'm coming to the conclusion it is a hardware issue that was fixed with 6.0.1

Might be I'm stuck using this iPhone- when I do choose to use it, simply without exterior sound. The vibration alone- thankfully does work!- will have to be enough.

Not quite following how a hardware issue is fixed by a software update.

You're right. I didn't communicate that correctly. It's a software issue Apple fixed in iOS6.0.1
I was hopeful some type of tweak might fix it otherwise...

Where did you still find a sealed iphone 5? Anyway if it's a hardware problem, you can change out the speakers. New ones can be bought on eBay and there are plenty of tutorials on youtube.

On eBay. Got kind of lucky as the seller didn't list it as brand new and didn't list the firmware. Picked it up for $140. and was going to keep it sealed then realized there probably will never be a true market for these (like the original iPhone), so went ahead and set it up to use. Again, runs flawlessly if I can just get around the external sound issue.

When you turn the volume up or down, does it show volume or headphone? If stuck in headphone, try seeing if there is dirt or lint in there and clean it out or try blowing out the headphone jack with a hair dryer on low for about 30 secs and then respring and see if that fixes it

Umm could be hardware issue and seller resold it as new while it wasn't really new.
If the phone can play music, video sound then it's not hardware.
