Hey guys,

I accidentally broke my iPhone X (now unlocked) and it's out of warranty. I checked Apple.com and it says it costs $550 to replace it -- my question is: does this apply for the iPhone X I bought in 2017?

Thank you.

At that point you're probably better off waiting for the iPhone XI to come out which will drive XS prices down to around $600. Can you swing by on a backup phone for two months? Like an old 6S or 7?

After the XS was launched last year, I was able to pick up a used X with AppleCare for only $650. So don't pay the high prices now, the previous models will drop to $600 when the new iPhone comes out.

yes, out of warranty cost is $549

Given Apple’s price structure for out of Warranty repairs, the OP might want to consider AC+ for the next phone.

Also I would contact the carrier. Some carriers have stock of the iPhone X and are offering attractive deals.

Or perhaps a better case? Some people like to go caseless until they learn about the OOW replacement fee.

@JPack

Good point about the case. I never go cashless. I use the Apple leather case because it works with wireless charging.

I’ve seen TV ads where T-Mobile will give you a new phone if you switch. You have to check out the terms and are you willing to switch Carriers?
