Hey guys, im running a last gen ipod classic (80gb) but for some reason, these days im getting alot of hiccups. First off, my select button doesnt work 90% of the time, i have to click it multiple times to get it to register a click. Also the lag is unbearable. Im talking about a 5 second wait just to go back to the main menu. My warranty ran out this month, its not as if Apple was going to honor it anyways. I bought it from ebay, and the previous owner scratched it pretty bad, that and its in horrible condition so Apple will probably think it was user damage. My question was, how much is it to get it fixed by apple? Do they fix the button, and put a new housing, or they just swap a new one for you? Also do they still have the last gen classics in stock? or are they willing to give me a a current gen ipod classic? oh and a last piece of info, i dont have the receipt. I should still be good for the out of warranty price right?

Unless it's less than 30 days old in your possession, I would sell it on eBay and see what you can get...someone will buy it and take it apart and attempt to fix it. If less than 30 days old, I would contact PayPal and/or eBay stating you got a lemon (unless of course the auction clearly stated the unit is screwed up).

I would take the money from the sale and put it towards a new iPod when they come out with refreshes...probably by May.

I'm dying for a Nano but they just don't have the capacity...I need at least 32gig...64gig or more is what I really want. My collection of tunes is over 140gigs and quite a bit of that I don't sync to my 160gig Classic.

Back to your question...also, remember that many credit card companies EXTEND any electronic device's normal warranty by 1 year. So buy yourself a new (or refurbished) iPod and relax knowing that you actually have a 2 year warranty. Amex runs this extended warranty program...
