I hope this is the right place to ask: how could a mac user download his Outlook.com account mails (all or a subfolder) to local disk?

Apparently Outlook.app from Microsoft does not have an import/export feature as of Dec 2024.

I have Version 16.91.1 and it certainly lets you export emails, etc, to an archive folder (*.olm) - is this what you want?

Thanks for the screenshots. Import/Export options are greyed out under the File menu. Same Outlook for Mac version (Ventura).

Edit:
Outlook's help page titled "Exporting Items to an archive file in Outlook for Mac" says that "This feature is only available on Legacy Outlook for Mac".

You probably have the "New Outlook for Mac" enabled which is free for personal accounts doesn't have all the same features as the "legacy" version.
Thanks again @njvm and @bob_zz123: Legacy Mode indeed offers the export option but I think it exports everything; not just the subfolder that I was hoping to backup. No big deal.

Now I'll try to import the .olm file on a different Mac to check whether all messages and attachments are there.
