Hello i justa was wondering if its posible to overclock a 5,1 mac pro. I've been doing some research and found an old tool named zdnet clock, in some posts people says its broken, i have trayed it but no luck. also i dont know if its because it only supports to 3,1 macs because al threads about it are from 2008. i would love to know if there's an option to oc via windows as i have dual os install, i asume its diferent between cpu model i have dual e5620, and running win10 and macos 1.13.6.
Thanks.

It's probably much easier just swap out the CPU to X5680 or X5690. I'm guessing you might already be overclocking the GPU on the Windows side. Doubtful one can squeeze any more benchmark performance out of a Mac Pro 5,1 beyond CPU upgrade and configure RAM for triple channel mode.

Just get dual X5690s or the X5680 - they are very cheap and it is a safer upgrade than overclocking.

Remember also to look at the northbridge and redo that with fresh thermal paste and new spring clips.

Intel XTU is the only tool that tested can overclock the CPU on a 5,1.

However, the VRM on the 5,1 isn't designed for overclocking, you will hit the power limit fairly quickly. So, as the other said, upgrade the CPU is so much easier and safer in your case.
