I have a large music library.

Whenever I want to play something on my mac,
I simply go to one of my main smart playlists: "pop", "classical", "world", "jazz" etc
and then I'll have my column browser where I can pick a subgenre I'm in the mood for
(rock, folk, dnb, etc), then an artist, then an album.

But when I'm on ios and I go to playlists, every playlist is just one big list of songs.
When I go to genre, I'll get way too many albums per genre, which are not sorted by artist name.
When I go to artists: I'll get a big list of way too many artists, especially because all the classical
music artists are in there too. I have to scroll ages to get to the next letter...

It gets easy to forget about artists this way because there is no overview anymore and it's impossible
to simply play something quickly, I can't find anything anymore.

I wish ios would have an option to go from playlist -> genre -> artist -> album
or genre -> artist -> album. Or leave out at least the classical artists (which I prefer to lookup with
composer, instead of artist).
Or a menu item with most favorite albums/artists.
I also wished the recently added was longer...
Overall, the amount of tweakability in ios' music is so limited.

One workaround I came up with is: download the most important music and use the download menu
to view the artists/albums that are the most important too you. It kinda works as a 'favorite' menu item then. But this is a weird way to waste space...

I can imagine more and more people have this problem since Apple Music, since it's so easy to keep on
adding nice new music to your library.

Well, I can also imagine more people will just ask that dumb Siri to play a certain song or just start playing their “curated” playlist instead of trying to figure out “I want to play Invisible Date from sweet ARMS with a genre of Anime” sort of thing.

Yeah okay, but the thing is, I can't remember all the music I have collected in my life. I can ask
siri to play this or that, but sometimes I just want to see all I liked in one genre so I could go like
aaah yeah: I almost forgot about this artist, let's listen to it again.

But now it's just a huge list of albums under genre instead of artist names.

I cannot remember all the music I have in my library. And since my iPhone is way too small in terms of storage (abysmal 128GB), I constantly need to swap my sync playlist for more music or the album I want. A pain to deal with.
Some other times, I just listen to the new album I have just acquired and eventually figure out whether I like or not after 30 times.
But I do agree that Apple Music app is just a disaster. Loses all features that was great before Apple Music and does not incorporate Apple Music well with new interface. I cannot recall but the feature you mentioned should be in iOS 8.4/9 Music app.
Also, cesium does have the feature you want but it’s design is nowhere near iOS 9 level.
