Apple's 512GB for the MBP is significantly less and you can get third party 512GB SSDs for less than $1000 with 6Gbit SATA support. The prices seems out of line to me.
Except this is made for one specific line of computers, you can't spread the design/manufacturing costs around as much when you have a limited market to begin with. It is what it is.

Dude forget that you can pretty much by the high end air for that, than just get a 1TB hardrive for around $100-200
Awesome. I have the 360Gb version in my Air and it's worked flawlessly for 3 weeks now. The first one was DOA but OWC eventually sent a fine replacement.
My Air is now my main computer with all my photos and itunes library with me at all times. Why would I want a lightweight portable like the air then carry around a USB drive?? Might as well by a MBPro.
DaveOZ:
I remember reading about the problems you were having with your first upgraded SSD (kind of made me disqualify that as an option). I'm glad to hear the new drive is doing better for you. I may want to consider it if Apple doesn't offer an upgraded SSD size with the SB update.
Please let us know if you are still happy with your new drive after a few more months of use.
I agree with you the external drive... I want as little to carry as possible; why else would buy the MBA in the first place?
