Let us know if the „old“ one still works, maybe they‘re just trying to make a profit.

Looks the same to me. Get the cheaper one before they realize they haven't pulled it down yet.

are you kidding me I just purchased the old one. Looks like I have to do the whole return thing.

I wonder just as a scratch drive it works normally, but the “misbehavior” is when it’s used as a boot drive. Which I am using it for it’s former.
I know some people have the accessible already with their 7,1. Can you guys chime in on any weirdness?

Did they really need to release a new version (with a new price) if the problem was firmware-fixable on the "old" version? I will send mine back as soon as it arrives.

Wonder if it’s firmware or a hardware modification such as power up initialization or PCIe trace length or termination type change.

I got the “old card” , installed and it is running fine. It’s not setup as a boot drive. 🤔

But in reality, OWC's move just smells... suspect.
I've been suspicious of OWC for a while now. Got an older version of the Mercury Elite Pro Dual mini a few years ago. USB, or maybe Firewire. It had 2 SATA SSDs in it set to RAID 0, and it mounted on my laptop. I started copying files into it, and it stopped midway. Okay, whatever. I try again. It failed to finish again. So I contacted OWC, and they said that I'd need to get the "optional" external power cord. That's even though the drive was advertised as being bus powered. So I get the power cord, and it still fails to copy all my files. Contacted OWC, they sent me a replacement enclosure. This one failed. Add in how I've heard other people have bad experiences with OWC. So I'm off OWC for a while.

OWC has been slapping their name on other vendor's products and reselling for awhile. Believe they recently purchased AKiTiO and are doing the same with those products. For the markup they charge, their products and customer service are not as reliable as they should be.

You can absolutely do worse than choosing OWC products, but there are much better options out there.

Does anyone know whether or not this card can be used to boot into windows/bootcamp?

I was an Akitio fan, but now that OWC bought them I'm skeptical. Also, Akitio's industrial design was much better than OWC's, even the items that are just recolored and rebadged look worse.

The only difference I see between the two 1TB version cards is the $480 expensive one supports MP5,1 - 7,1 and the other $300 cheaper one only supports the MP 5,1 . Also , the cheaper card gives you SoftRAID XT , whereas the expensive one gives you SoftRAID . I'm not certain why there is a difference in RAID software since its all OWC hardware . Perhaps there is a firmware difference between the two models for stability reasons ?

The heatsink/shroud of the older design supposedly has clearance issues with some other cards in a 7,1.

Both card versions have identical exterior dimensions and weight . And the shrouds also look identical . Maybe they recycled older photos ? Do you suppose it is physically mounted differently ?

Don’t know. Read that in one of their knowledge base articles that I now can’t find... Could be something as minor as bracket-to-heatsink alignment or even a slightly too-tall screw head on the rear of the card; something that could be fixed with a Dremel in a few minutes.

Could also be something more substantial such as lowering the whole heatsink deck height by 0.5mm.
