Hopefully I'm not violating rules here but I wanted to let everyone know I just pulled the trigger on a 4G kit for $100.

I'm not sure what I can post about the site so hopefully this helps someone w/o causing waves here!

Definitely , I think OWC is great, I ordered the 3 Gig pack for my white imac early last year and its been working flawlessly. Great prices

I bought the same kit after purchasing an aluminum iMac for $230.

Bought the same thing in October and has been working like a charm... knock on wood.

Add me to the list.

I've recommended them and their various web pages which really make it easy to find which chip you'll need based on which Mac you own. They also test all their memory before selling it, and have a return policy where you can make a few bucks if you wish to return your old chips. They have useful information on interleaving (matching memory in pairs in the DIMMS, so you get a 7-8% performance boost for apps that can take advantage of the Intel Duo Core) and also that some 2006 iMacs (i.e. I own a late 2006 iMac 20) can take the full 4GB, even report it as 4GB in the config but really only about 3.3GB is actually accessible by Mac OS X. But that's better than 1GB which shipped with it.

This is important information to know - an educated consumer is a good consumer. Meaning, they're not out to cheat you, all the tech is linked on their web site for those interested, including installation tips.

Great company, prices, products based on personal experience.

Well, I received the kit and installed it last night. The system detected it just fine.

I was surprised that the sticks didn't have "OWC" on them. They were either Advant or Advent. Is this typical?

Is there an easy way to test to see if the RAM is performing up to spec? I'll be doing some video editing this weekend but I don't have any history about how the speeds would compare to using less RAM.

AND, my system info below is updated too! :D

I bought a 3GB kit from them for my macbook. They were considerably cheaper than the other "bargain" faves like crucial, and it's worked like a dream. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again either.

This is too funny. I did my sig the day I got setup for the first time. I think it was about 3 AM and I never looked at it since until I updated to 4GB RAM and even then, I didn't really proof read it.

Anywho, I just downloaded memtest and hope to test out my new RAM kit tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip! I just bought 4GB for my iMac. Now it's gonna grow wings and, well, you know.....;)

It's OK to tell people about good sites, as long as you aren't promoting them for your own benefit.

4 GB Crucial for $108

I just ordered the 4 GB kit of SO-DIMM PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 memory from Crucial for $107.99 with free shipping and no tax! Just what the Intel iMac is screaming for!
And, no, I neither work for Crucial nor own any stock. I just like doing business with companies in the good old USA.
Morod
PS... I spent the rest of my Christmas bonus on a G-Tech 500 GB external hard drive from Amazon. Again, free shipping and no taxes. I will be checking my mail every day!

Update: I did get charged an extra $5.51 for sales tax on the memory. Still free shipping, though.

suggestions plz

hello all. I am thinking of upgrading my 2GB to 2X2GB OWC RAM. OWC is new to me, any info on customer service/RAM quality would be great. what does everyone think of this, and would you recommend any other brands?

OWC is great. They have reasonable return policies and very fast shipping.

Search "OWC". You will be hard pressed to find any bad opinions of them. I suspect RAM is RAM so you just need to find a reputable company with a good warranty and OWC from macsales.com keeps showing up as a great choice when you research the web.

My 4Gb, matched kit was $100.25 which included shipping and no tax. I also ran memtest a few times and every little piece of my RAM works flawlessly according to the test. I'm a happy guy!
