I've got a iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) Model Identifier 17,1)

I want to upgrade the memory from the stock 8gb that I bought with it to more.

Recommendations?

Never had any issues with any of their hardware.

I did have an OWC SSD die once, but only after 3+ years of 24/7 use as a boot drive in a server. It got worked much harder than a typical work station, maybe 2 to 3 times more read/writes...but I still think that was shorter life than some might expect.

That's the closest thing to a gripe I have.

Over the years, working in IT departments, have only bought Crucial (Micron), OWC, and Samsung RAM. No real issues with any. Maybe about 1% has had a problem, but as long as they stand behind (and replace) their product, no concerns.

OWC is probably the premier Mac provider of Mac-related hardware. They're one of the few places I DO trust, and the first place I shop for RAM and Storage Drive upgrades.

I bought some from them for some earlier MBPs. One stick was bad, and they helped me figure that out and replaced it.

In my experience, you can safely do business with OWC. Their RAM (and SSD drives) are excellent and they stand behind their products.

Bought several sticks of ECC RAM for my Mac Pro. Two of them went bad after a year or so. OWC simply replied saying that they had a lifetime warranty and to send them in - I live in the UK so after postage it would have been uneconomical so had to fork out for RAM from somewhere else. I've had bad experience too with their external Mercury Elite stuff which failed just a few months outside the warranty. They refused to repair it.

Seems their quality control is left to their customers, would avoid personally and buy Crucial memory which over the course of dozens of purchases I have never had a problem with.

I can't even count the number of times I've purchased RAM from them over the years. I vaguely remember that I had one stick of RAM either arrive DOA or go bad shortly after I got it, but it was dealt with and my opinion of them wasn't diminished in the least. I've also purchased numerous replacement laptop batteries from them. There may be better options depending on what you want, but you can't go wrong dealing with them. They're solid.

OWC, datamemorysystems.com, crucial.com are just a few of the reputable vendors. There are only a handful of actual DRAM chip makers anyway (Samsung, Micron, and Hynix) so the differences among different brands of memory sticks will mostly be in the binning and manufacturing QA.
