OWC Memory

I've used OWC many times, always getting just what I ordered. In fact, recently I bought an 8 GB stick of 1066mHz RAM, and what I got was 1333mHz.
Nothing wrong with OWC, but they are normally very overpriced. Just get the specs for your memory and find whatever is cheapest from a vendor you think will be around if you have a warranty issue. Nothing special about OWC's memory.
Check out Crucial or Newegg.
In my case not so great. For my MP 3.1 I added 6 2GB chips from OWC alongside the original Apple 1GB chips back in 2009. Over the course of the last 2-1/2 years all 6 OWC chips have failed at different times. The original Apple chips still work fine. While OWC replaced them under their lifetime warranty, you need to send back in pairs at your cost. Almost $30 in shipping fees I had to pay for 3 shipments.

My OWC RAM has had its ups and downs too but the company always replaced them without question or hesitation. Sure, I had to spend the couple of bucks to mail back some RAM chips but I think that's reasonable.
I used to buy Crucial RAM exclusively but then decided to try OWC. The lifetime warranty and friendly people on the phone have made me a convert.
Did the Crucial memory ever fail though? Downtime can be critical for some people and can cost a lot more then $10 in shipping.
I have Crucial memory in 2 Macs now, have not experienced a failure. Yes, OWC has a lifetime warranty and having to replace 2 out of 8 chips at a time did not cause a downtime. But it was a PITA.
I have bought 3 items from OWC in the last few years that failed, a 3GB Sata PCi card, a 12 month warranty HD enclosure that failed at 13 months and 6 memory chips. Plus the firewire 800 dual 3.5 raid box I got from them 2 years ago was 10 times noisier then my Mac fans, and their specs said it was quiet. As a long time, 10 year plus, customer of OWC, I am just saying their quality seems to have slipped a bit and I now shop based on product durability and reputation, not just a low price.

6-Core version.
I can leave one slot with the stock Apple memory, and the other three with the Crucial memory right?

Your profile does not indicate which MacPro you have, but if six core, probably 4,1 or 5,1. I have the 3,1 and 5,1 and both need ram to be in matched pairs, so No the Apple memory, unless it was the same speed and GB, could not be used. (According to Apple). Nothing wrong with 24mb though.
