About the OWC Mercury Aura Express SSD Upgrades for the MacBook Air?

Where do I find an installation video? Is there a turnkey program for this? Will an Apple-authorized service provider do the upgrade? Do I need a special Torx-5 security screwdriver? How in the world are you supposed to install this upgrade? And how hard is it to really do?

I suggest you contact OWC directly. They're the ones selling the thing, not anyone here. They have very helpful live chat on their website if you don't want to ring them. but it sounds like you have a lot of questions they will be able to answer.

ifixit.com has the disassembly guide and sells the tools to make it happen. That said, I'm not going to bother.

Our product is going to be shipping very shortly - and the intent is to include the necessary tools, which is the primary hold right now. Installation video guides are in edit now as well.

Our product is real... and while we do not see any reason Apple would have for taking issue with our actual engineered product, we certainly hope they don't take issue wither way.

It's arguable whether the SSD will void the warranty. However, opening the MacBook Air will probably void the warranty. That said, I've read that the Geniuses at the Apple Stores have some latitude in determining whether to approve a warranty repair. You'll have to determine whether to take the risk.

That would be good if they provide the proper tools with the upgrade and installation how-to videos on their site. They might also have a turnkey program and let OWC install it themselves if the user doesn't feel comfortable doing the upgrade. I know they provide this service for Mac Mini RAM and SSD upgrades, since the Mini upgrade is not a Level 1 "easy" upgrade.

I think there is simply no doubt that alteration or replacement of any internal part in an MBA would void the warranty. It seems clear to me at least that the reason Apple used nonstandard Torx security screws to secure the MBA's case was to discourage MBA owners from opening their cases.
