Hey guys, I wanted to get the 2 x 2 sticks from OWC for 250, which is a good price compared to crucials 400. Is this safe? I'm afraid there might be a problem etc. Thanks

although i haven't bought from them, they are a great place. and they get great reviews around here. i believe they guarantee their ram too, so i would buy without worry.

OWC's price is $222. And it of course comes with the lifetime advance warranty, so if there's ever a problem, replacements are on their way to you the instant you notify them of the problem.

buy from them all the time, never had a problem. I have their RAM in my PowerMac

Do you mean you're buying the OWC branded stuff? I would like to get memory from them, but don't know whether to get the Micron/Samsung over OWC. OWC is the best deal. I did chat with a OWC rep who recommended the Samsung. I'll be doing heavy work - Photoshop and 3D animation, and he said the Samsung would be best for what I'm doing.

I know enough about computers to know that regardless of the brand name, they are still the same specs, and it really shouldn't make a difference which brand I use, other than long term reliability.

Any of you used OWC branded memory for "heavy" work, and can vouch for its quality/performance?

How long has OWC been around? Before the forums, I'd never heard of them. I am more inclined to but from crucial, but it's like a $100+ difference, :(.

OWC has been around maybe 15 years or more, as has Data Memory Systems. You can't get better Mac knowledge or service in the USA than from these two vendors.

transintl has several links on their webpage that lead to 404 errors. would you trust a company like that?

To build a website? perhaps not. But that has nada to do with their memory. I don't know Trans International as well as the other 2, but they have been in business for quite a while as well.

Remember, some of the best scammers have excellent looking websites.

I have a 3GB kit from OWC in my macbook. I considered purchasing elsewhere for a few bucks cheaper, but they were the only store that is specifically advertising a 3GB macbook kit. I figured I'd have an easier time returning it if necessary if they acknowledged this use to begin with.

It hasn't been an issue though, as the ram has performed perfectly so far.

Yes, parts of that thread are still true. I don't believe that Crucial still reads their customer's cookies, but they definitely still charge different prices for the same RAM depending on your computer (for example, the Core Duo iMac RAM was listed cheaper than MacBook RAM, so naturally, I bought the cheaper :D).

That said, Crucial's prices (even when quoted the higher prices) still beat any others I could find.

EDIT: I should point out that, in my case, the difference in quoted prices was the result of a sale (not that it really matters). ...Besides the price (and part numbers) the two kits were identical.
