OWC SSD - ordering from UK

Having had some problems with a Vertex 2 ssd in one of my Mac Pros I decided to order a 240gb Mercury Extreme from OWC in the U.S. Firstly I was amazed at the speed of delivery, only ordered Sunday night, just arrived Tues morning! On top of that the price was very reasonable (£319 incl delivery), I thought there would be an extra uk tax charge on top of the U.S price but not in this case.

I was a bit dubious about ordering from the States as it's a pain if I have problems and have to return the drive, but so far so good.

I will install the drive later in the week and post how it compares to the Vertex.
 
Are you kidding me!? No extra tax?? I'm thinking of getting one of these but i was worried about extra tax when it arrives in the UK. Do you reckon if they tax yours then they just don't tax, or do they only do some?

Also, any news yet on how the SSD itself is performing?

I bought some memory from owc last year and I had to pay tax when it was delivered (Dorset, UK).
 
Whilst you won't have to pay customs charges, I find it hard to believe that you won't get clobbered for VAT at some point.

yes I was surprised, I wonder if it was a mistake and I just slipped through the net. I can't see how I would be charged for VAT now as the money has been charged to my credit card and I have the goods. The only extra charge was £9 commission by the CC company. At what point should the vat have been added?

As I said, it depends on who delivered it. Some will collect the VAT & duty payment from you at the door before goods are transfered with others you will get an invoice from HMRC at a later date.

I had to pay at the door when it was delivered.
 
Bought my MP & MBP memory off them.

Didn't get charged.

Did for my larger packages from them however.

Luck of the draw tbh.
 
Charges

If sent USPS and you don't get charged immediately, you won't. UPS charge at the door, FEDEX you can get the bill up to a month later. If a US vendor will send USPS and put a low value, you generally get away with it.

Which sand force SSD should i go for for my 2010 i5 MBP? It's SATA 3G not 6G.

Uhhh, i already bought it so the postage stuff doesn't matter anymore. I went for the OCZ Vertex 2E (SATA 3G). I think it said read speeds of 285mbps and write speeds of 275mbps so thats the fastest you're going to be getting for your mac
