1st for me....Not a dead defective Thunderbolt port but just -usage-.
My rear left is the default port I use to connect to the monitor:charge
All ports charge fine and output video minus this one port

A close look and the -sides edges- of the port pin look a bit darkish.
Took some alcohol-cleaned it up with whatever I could get access.
It's still dark on the sides but alas, I got video output.

This -patina- of dark sides on this problamatic port I was just working on ....is this more just from heat as it charges.

Take a cotton swab, buy a contact cleaner, shut down your computer and clean the ports with the contact cleaner.

I did after the Genius Bar visit. I think the connector being discussed is permanently *singed-oxidized * on the sides....it's a bit brown, and still is. But whatever contact I was able to make with the swab and the alcohol....the rear port is working for Video.

It wasn't even on my radar to look until Genius Bar guy shone a light on it and told me video was not working as it was burnt up....and etc...
