Pages vs. GoodReader for pdfs

I have both Pages and GoodReader downloaded onto my iPad. I'm still a bit hazy on how to use GoodReader. In other words, how is it better than Pages for reading PDFs or for downloading PDFs? I hope this question is somewhat clear.
