I kept getting that screen with the little folder with a question mark in the middle of it. Sent it to be serviced as the apple advisor recommended instead of buying a new one like i should've.... They said it was a battery issue and that I should change out my screen as well. Paid 500+ bucks. Now its back and the same thing is happening... laptop keeps shutting off by itself and i have to try several times to reboot it. Still getting that screen with the questionmark folder thing. This is the last error message I got -- please help:

I think it's a failing SSD. The flashing folder is not a battery issue, it's a boot issue (the computer is looking for a valid boot drive), and the screen was unrelated as well.
The repairs that you already paid for might have fixed whatever issue was happening with the battery and the display screen, but those were unrelated to the symptom.
Maybe the shop fixed "something", but neither part would cause a flashing folder.

If this was a Mac specialist, then I think the shop was hoping that the drive would continue working.
It did not.
And the flash storage on your 2017 MBPro is soldered onto the logic board.
Failed flash storage means replacing the logic board.

This is a kernel panic in your Intel integrated GPU driver. Doesn't seem like a hardware issue.
Try doing a software update and see if it reproduces on the latest release of macOS Monterey.

...And get your money back.

Sorry you put out so much $$$ for a bad result.
You should have come here first.

Y'know, it sure helps if you tell us:
Which Mac you have.
What year it was made.
What OS is/was running on it.

Yes 500 is way too much. That's 1/3 of the new one. Should of just gotten a new one.

That info is in OP first post, in the log that was included.
MacBookPro14,1 (2017 13-inch, no touchbar)
It's running Monterey - 21C52, so that makes it macOS 12.1

Yes I think you are right... Someone at the shop mentioned something about a logic board... I sent it back again and they said they fixed it but now it's back with me and the same thing is still happening so I have to send it back again...

Thanks for your response. That was the second thing I tried before taking it to the shop the first time... It didn't solve the problem. I wonder if I could get my money back cos at this point I'm pretty bugged. I have to commute 2.5 hours to get there so that doesn't help either. Will mention this to them.. thanks!

Since it was Monterey, did you also have windows installed via boot camp?

Monterey is extremely territorial and will check to make sure your SSD isn't aftermarket before running, and will corrupt its firmware if it detects another OS installed on it competing with it. That means no booting it from an external, no dual booting it with another OSX, and Boot Camp is extremely risky.

You're not alone, people have been having this problem and are stuck paying hundreds or thousands of dollars to replace SSD's & logic boards because of this new "feature". I just dropped $450 on an owc SSD, bc my iMac was a 2019 with a replaceable SSD card. If your mac has soldiered harware, Monterey just doomed your computer to the trash bin.

Each software update contains new bug fixes.
The issue you are describing is a software problem, not a hardware problem.

If enough people on your hardware are hitting this, Apple will fix it.
Trust me on this, update your Mac.
