Other Paid in full: No sim or AT&T?

I've never purchased an "no sim" phone or even bought one outright. My plan this year is to buy the Xs Max outright rather than At&T Next or Apple's plan. What is the difference between the "no sim" and AT&T? It appears they're the same price.

(If theres no difference) Would purchasing the "no sim" be quicker on launch night since there would be no carrier login?

No difference, if you pay full price for either AT&T or no sim, they will both be unlocked. The only difference is that the AT&T one comes shipped with a SIM Card installed. Just get the sim free version and when that arrives you can insert your old ATT Sim into the new phone. It really doesnt matter.
