I saw that this question has been asked a long long time ago... There still does not seem to be any stand alone software or Photoshop plugin for the Mac that will create a "paint by numbers" image from a photo. Has anyone successfully found one?

Only for PCs

I have only found them for PCs. There are sites that will convert your photo to a PBN kit, but they are expensive.

hopefully this act of kindness will be helpful

Code:
What does the Paint by Numbers program do?

My program includes these features:

    * Unlimited undos - If you find that you have made a mistake, you can simply back up to that point, then start over from there.
    * Automatic solution checking - Once you've complete a row or column, the program places a check next to it, if you're right, or an X, if you're wrong.
    * Use any font and size for the numerals - Use large print for maximum readability, or small print to fit a large puzzle on the screen.
    * Type in any puzzle from a book or magazine - Other programs require you to know the solution beforehand to create a new puzzle in the program. My program just asks for the clue numbers.
    * Create new puzzles from pictures in the clipboard or from PICT files.
    * Auto Solving - Allows you to make sure that any puzzles you design each have one and only one solution.

What do I need to use the program?

All you need is a Macintosh or Mac-compatible computer with:

    * MacOS 7.0 or later, and
    * One megabyte of memory.

Thank you, but I should have been more specific...

This really was an act of kindness, and these are terrific links. I am grateful for your research.

Unfortunately, I should have said that I'm looking for a program that will convert a photo into an actual paint-by-number document, that can be printed onto paper or canvas and actually painted (or colored in).

Programs like Stoik are PC-only, and other paint-by-number sites are puzzles or online-only.
