Whilst shaking one of those paint-filled marker pens without its lid on I managed to get several large blobs of metallic silver paint on my 24" iMac's beautiful screen!

Does anybody have any suggestions for how to clean it? I am thinking of using white spirit/nail varnish remover but I'm afraid it might take off some of the ani-glare coating on the glass.

Anybody got any experience with this?

Thanks! Kris

try vodka its less likely to take any coatings of the screen if there are any ... also depending whether its oil based ink u may just want to use some standard wd40 oil on it as that would clean it off good luck

I have heard of people having a real good result with turpentine. Heard it works really good without any adverse affects.

Why dont you replace the screen of the mac ?

or else use suction cups to remove it and see if you can wash it off.

You can get Apple to replace your glass for about $200 OR you can go to a local AASP and get it done for about $70 (with installation). Guess which one I went with. :p

Is the glass any different than the glass on your house? How would you get that paint off?

I like the turpentine idea; just be careful not to get it anywhere it shouldn't go.

I'd remove the glass with suction cups, and just get some usual window cleaner and scrub it!

DO NOT take a razor to your screen. take a credit card. even then you may get some scratches, but nothing as noticable as a razor

Got it off!!

Thanks for everybody's help with this one!

Just to let you know that a tiny amount of my girlfriend's nail varnish remover on a blue jiffy cloth got the paint of no problem at all with (as of yet) no adverse effects! I am fairly sure the glass screen has no anti-reflective coating on it so there is nothing to worry about there.

Again, thanks for all your suggestions!

Kris

If the credit card doesn't work, I would try a razor. Just make sure to hold the entire blade flat against the glass.

Razor blade is the number one way of getting dried paint off of windows. I have done it hundreds of times and never scratched one yet. Granted, they are house windows so they probably don't have any coatings on them. You won't scratch the glass, it is only the coating you would have to worry about.

Razor blade and a little water. Just hold the razor blade at a angle and scrape lightly. The water will help cary away the dried ink or paint. Don't use any chemicals on your mac.
