Painter x and Wacom issues - Help!

Trying to get comfortable with Painter. I have a Wacom Graphier tablet and working with a Power Mac G5. The tablet is sluggish and non-responsive when using the pen on an image. The pen starts and stops. However, the mouse moves with no problem. Any reason why movement does not occur instantly when the pen touches the tablet but works when it hovers over the tablet allowing navigation in the file selections and etc. Only issue is when the pen actually touches the tablet and I try to paint with it. Is the tablet plugged directly into the Mac or into a hub ?

Try connecting it directly and also check the Wacom website for updated drivers.

Try disconnecting all other usb devices and then try to draw with painter.

Thanks for the advice. The tablet is connected directly to the iMac - no hub. I did download the latest driver based on your advice. Still no luck. Very strange. I have no trouble using the tablet in Photoshop or with any other application. If I place the pen on the tablet and bump the mouse, the pen works. Lift the pen to another section of the image and it is sluggish again. Bump the mouse and it moves. Frustrating!! Are there settings inside of Painter that would address this issue? I have the pen set to a soft setting. Thanks!

did you try adjusting Corel Painter's "brush tracking" preferences? it's located second on the drop-down menu just under the "General" option.

draw your pen lightly over the box - even if you tend to press hard while working, start with a sensitive setting and adjust it more later.

I had the same problem with Painter X, but not Painter 8-9. I suspect this has more to do with Painter X running like crap on PPC macs. You might also notice that some brushes (liquid ink for example) are WAY worse than others in this respect.

just spit balling here, but does painter x use x11?
i had major problems trying to use gimp on mac until they released a version that didn't rely on x11.
at least i think that's what it was

i just remembered ~~i a had to install the newdst wacom tablet driver a couple of months ago and as i recall, problems i was having were similar to what you describe except i don't use a mouse. i have a different model but maybe the graphire has a new one too.

wacom painter Mac issue

I've had issues, so I turned off my mouse (bluetooth)and the tablet works fine. I can use my touch pad on my notebook with the wacom.

I read that wacom is have a rough time keeping up with Apples innovations, especially USB support. I think the external devices are conflicting [wasn't an issue on older machines]. It's not just Painter... any app that needs to pump large amounts data quickly through the pipe. I think two external devices, trafficing the same large data through what is now designed to be handled by one controller device, Kind of like have two traffic cops controlling the same street , Blam!!!!

I was going to say that if you have the mouse and the pen both on the tablet, in use, some people have had issues with jerky or weird pen jesters because they are both competing to do the same thing, working the point of contact making the pen move slowly. See if moving the mouse away helps. Also I thought that you could control the speed of the movement in Painter just like using the mouse? I believe it was a few years ago that Wacom had some issues with a driver because I had bought my 9x12 Intuos3 tablet and it gave me trouble till the point I was ready to chew the usb cable off. They did release a working driver but thanks to MacRumorUser it got solved If all else fails send Wacom an email as they respond pretty quick and might be able to point you to another driver.

The problem that I was experiencing was due to the brush ghosting. This older iMac G5 that I have doesn't have the processing power it needs for this function. When i turned it off, the problem went away. Thanks for all the feedback.
