"Pairing unsuccessful Macbook Air is not supported"

I just got a iPhone 16 with iOS 18. I'm trying to pair it with BT on my M1 Macbook Air running Sequoia 15.0. The devices both show up in nearby dvices but every time I try to pair it says "MacBook Air" is not supported. Any ideas?

It looks like iPhone Mirroring is looking for my old iPhone.

iPhones and Macs do not pair - haven’t for years. This is perfectly normal.

With Sequoia there's an icon for iphone mirroring in the bottom quick launch bar. I believe it lets you drag and drop photos to the mac.

All you should need to do is open the iPhone Mirroring app and it should just work as long as both devices meet certain requirements (i.e. both devices signed into the same Apple Account). You don't need to do any pairing. Sounds like maybe you need to reset iPhone access in iPhone Mirroring settings and/or removing the Mac from iPhone Mirroring on your old Phone.

Thanks, that was it. For some reason it never occurred to me that there even was a settings menu for the iPhone Mirroring app.

Yes - but that has nothing to do with pairing in Bluetooth. You literally can't pair a phone to a Mac via Bluetooth, it's not intended to work that way.
