Yeah. Great OS. Lousy hardware design. It's garbage.

Palm's execution on this device has been horrible. Which is why it never really caught on and why Palm's priority is to survive into the new year in the wake of Android and iPhone adoption. Palm had a great product and they half-assed it. Mostly due to retarded management.

i see no substance in your statement at all.

sure I can sit here calling iPhone garbage too, lousy software with no multitasking, awkward UI not intuitive compare to WebOS, on a expensive network, poor 3G coverage, etc, etc.

the fact is Palm is 20x smaller a company and Pre+pixi has sold well over 1m in 6 months, they dont need apple or google like profit to survive, or thrive

the fact is also that Pre has 60% very satisfaction rate. tho not as high as iPhone and android, but sure not lousy, consider the blind brand loyalty apple and google enjoys.

the fact is also that you own no pre and you make no credible judgment on a product you don't own.

The OS is the core value of Palm. The Pre (and WebOS on the Pre) has been tested in the marketplace for several months, and performance has been less than stellar. The market has rendered its judgment. WebOS itself hasn't failed. But WebOS in the hands of Palm has done poorly in the market.

Lack of money is Palm's main problem at this point, and with developers heading to Apple (and apparently Android, or so we're told), it isn't looking too good. Palm spent the necessary money to get the OS to market in sufficient quantity, with a formidable retailer, using a formidable marketing campaign. It had every chance of doing well. But no big splash against Apple, and entering the game with a whimper to top it all off, means it's just a rung or two above failure. It had every chance of doing well and it didn't. And Palm's debts aren't helping, either. There WILL be a shakedown in the mobile market, with only two or three players that will remain standing. Android is going full steam and so is the iPhone. RIM is doing well but has some serious flaws in its current strategy that will hurt them moving forward. But a crackberry is a crackberry. WinMo is all but dead. Nokia is in a downward slide with a litigation strategy in place which is obviously flawed, if not laughable.

Is there room for Palm? Who knows. Palm blew the release and then blew its chances in the following months.

While the Pre didn't fail, it didn't succeed as a breakout product either. Not for Palm, not for Sprint. That seriously hurt Palm and at this point economics is not on their side. The AT&T/Verizon deal is their last stand.

Palm is buyout material. Their new phones and new apps are the bait. You think they can make the most of it on their own financially? Maybe. But for some reason I don't think Palm's current management has what it takes.

Im just saying Pre+pixi has sold 1m plus in 6 month on sprint. and Its highly likely it will reach 2m by June on Sprint+VZ, and ATT is also coming in H1 of 2010.

Compare to the size of the company and the expense of the company, the mindshare, sales, and profit will be more than enough to support palm for a while.

The WebOS is core, yes, and the Pre has capable hardwares to show it. Thats important, do remember Pre's inside is on par most android devices and iPhone 3GS. and webOS is more open and slimmer.

There are complaints about the building quality, sure, but what devices has no complaint? There is no any evidence of significantly higher than normal returning rate, plus decent satisfaction rate, its obvious the building quality is an overblown problem.

Well I have to say that AT&T and Verizon picking up the Pre is good news for Palm. Maybe it might be inappropriate to expect that every device should be an "iPhone Killer" to succeed. Fair enough. I'm just disappointed that Palm's managerial decisions didn't quite do justice to their device.
