I'm looking to get some sort of palm pilot. I'm just not sure of the model. Wifi sounds like it would be fun, but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra price.

For Mac compatibilty, are Palms the way to go, or could I also consider getting a pocket PC?

If I go Palm I was wondering what models you would suggest. I mainly need the Palm for addresses, to do things, calendar, etc. But, wifi would be fun. I'm sort of interested in the Palm Tungsten C and the Palm TX (if I got wifi). Does anyone have some feedback about these units? If I don't go with wifi, does anyone have some info on the z22?

Thanks.

definately go with a palm over a pocket pc. hands down.

that aside, i have the tungsten e2. http://www.palm.com/us/products/ is showing me that the tungsten c isn't available anymore. the decision mainly depends on what you're going to do with it...the tungsten e2 can do a lot more than the z22, and can be wifi enabled by purchasing the $99 (i think) wifi card...that way you can have the possibility of wifi if you decide in the future that you might want it. the office docs and the music are nice, especially if you already have sd cards....i bought a portable keyboard and use my tungsten e2 to type up essays, etc. it's pretty nice. you can afford to go all-out, i say go with the life-drive, but that's only if you can afford it, and if being able to carry it in a pocket without much weight isn't an issue. the tx is nice and all, especially with the faster processor and wider screen, but that's also an affordability issue.

all of that said...i recommend the tungsten e2. it does everything you say that you will need a palm for, and you still have the wifi option (you can also probably find some good deals at a local compusa/officemax/depot /bestbuy, if you don't mind mail-in rebates.

good luck!

EDIT almost forgot: the z22 would be fine for the basics that you describe, and its not very expensive either.

I had the Tungsten C for a while, and I recommend it strongly. The keyboard is more usable than the vast majority of keyboards, processor is zippy compared to most newer Palms, battery life is exceptional (important given Wifi). If you don't want a keyboard, I'd recommend the Tungsten TX for it's better overall looks and large display. Personally, I am a PPC user because there is specific medical PPC software I use for work; however, I use Palms quite a bit, and really enjoy the aforementioned models. The Tungsten E and E2 are also excellent at a lower price point than the aforementioned models, but without Wifi or the spacious display of the TX.

I'm also looking for a new handheld. I have an old Palm Vx, and I thought about digging it out the other day, but what I really want is bluetooth. I have a blackberry for work, but they aren't compatible with a mac without jumping through hoops, plus I don't really like the blackberry, and want something for my side business and personal.

Does the Palm sync well with iCal/Address Book/Mail, or just with Entourage?

The selection is limited with bluetooth enabled, so I might just have to wait a bit or eBay it.

Any suggestions?

I am the happy owner of a treo 600 and I can't fathom living without it. :)

Great phone/palm combo, although the 650 looks damn sexy as well (the 600 lacks bluetooth and screen resolution is 120x160 whereas the 650 boasts both bt and a 320x320 screen resolution).

Cheers,
