their servers will keep you connected and queue up any messages while you are not in the program and send you the messages when you are in the program. i haven't tried it yet, but it now seems that the one major advantage MC had is now essentially gone. well, assuming MC ever really worked for you, which it never did for me.

I've just accepted that the $3 I spent on MC is lost. It still doesn't do the pseudo-PUSH notifications.

palringo is awesome. it has worked great for me since the beginning. I don't understand all the complaints about it.

now with this offline server support, palringo is the best application out there and plus, it's FREE. you cannot beat free.

is there anyway I can complain to apple or mobilechat to get my 3 bucks back?

it kept my accounts online for only about 5-10 minutes. I don't think that's enough time...

Yep, looks like MobileChat is deader than dead now. They STILL haven't gotten their act together (almost a month later), and every day there seems to be new problems with their servers or software, new things not working as planned, and new empty promises. I've been reading their blog daily, only because it's been like watching a new car wreck every day -- I almost feel sorry for them, but honestly...they brought most of their problems upon themselves. Even if they WERE able to somehow get things working eventually, I don't know why any sane person would want to trust them -- they've proven over and over again how unreliable they are.

Unfortunately there's no perfect IM solution out there yet, but out of all of them, Palringo seems to be the best of the sad lot (and I can't believe I'm saying that, since at first I thought it'd be the worst).

The major problems I still have with Palringo are its GUI -- which ain't pretty -- and the fact that it crashes a lot (hopefully the new update changes that). It's also nearly unusable on EDGE. But all in all...it generally works the way it's supposed to, for the most part. Sure, it's lame that you need to sign up a new account, but on the plus side you can always USE that account for chatting with NEW people (in their groups -- which are confusing and hard to find, but they're there).

I'm really hoping the native BeeJive app comes soon, and truly delivers a good experience (still worried that there doesn't seem to be any indication of picture-sending support, though).

is there anyway I can complain to apple or palringo to get my 3 bucks back?

Um...I'm assuming you're talking about the $3 you spent on MobileChat? Why would complaining to Palringo, a separate app from a different company, be of any use to you? You CAN try and get your money back from Apple. Many people have done it already.

It's currently five minutes - enough time to check your email, take a short call, change a setting, or do another quick task in the background.

It's something we're experimenting with and this limit will gradually be increased. The prerequisites for push notifications are also being put in place.

Palringo works perfectly for me on EDGE. And yes, I meant MC, not Palringo.

How do I contact Apple? What is the email address or phone number? I can't find anything on iTunes.

Am I the ONLY one that didn't buy mobilechat because I had a hunch it was going to be a scam? Jeeeez.... :D

For your sakes, though, I hope they DO come through on their promises. For me, I'm using palringo (or IM+ depending on what mood I'm in ;)) until beejive finally arrives.

Go here.
Click on "Check your purchase history," which will bring you to your iTunes account.
Find MobileChat, click on the little arrow next to it, and click on "Report a Problem." (I think they make you do this twice in different places). Choose "This application does not function as expected" in the pulldown menu, and fill out the comment section with your complaint, explaining that you would like your money back.

You should get your money refunded -- though keep in mind they want you to delete and not use the app again after this happens. While you can technically still keep the app, chances are you might not be able to download any updates when they come.

i think you can go to itunes, and click on View my Account under the Store link. From there, you can click on Purchase History and then Report a Problem. I believe that is how you can try to get some kind of refund. I haven't done it myself, i'm not going to bother getting a refund from MC, $3 is nothing to cry about. However, the thought of paying for an unuseable product is. Regardless, i've just resigned myself to the fact that my initial impressions about the "unprofessionalism" displayed by the the MC clowns prior to release were correct and that not much would change post release. I've butted heads with a few MC fan boys on here in regards to them, but i'm pretty much done with MC. As mentioned by someone else, i'm just using palringo and IM+ until beejive is released.

well, I'm tempted but I'll wait until push notifications are here and I don't think I'll ever sign up for palringo, not a good user experience in my opinion.

Just downloaded and used the new Palringo, and it's MUCH better. Seems to work faster, and it looks better too. Doesn't have the lame text/picture/voice symbols next to every chat bubble anymore, which is a nice change. Seems more stable and smooth. I'm digging it...

MC doesnt work for beans. Palringo is decent. If i really want to chat with someone I have found Mundu, online IM, works well on the iphone. feels like an app not a website.

Mobile chat will be the best when its working. They just got new servers and they are putting them in tonight.

And this was the same old story for the past 4 weeks. Their team is a joke.

hahaha pretty much. i remember when everyone said "oh just wait a few days! it'll be just fine!". total bs.

the mobilechat people have absolutely NO IDEA what they're doing. they're installing random servers and trying out this type of gateway and testing out that type of software. overall NOTHING has gotten better for the last month or so. the very first day i got MC, it wouldn't even open up. then for a little while the program actually loaded correctly and i could get online every once in a while, albeit with TONS of UI bugs, no notifications whatsoever, and the thing never actually kept any of my accounts online.

fast forward 4 weeks later and i just tried mobilechat again. once again it just closes by itself upon launch! yah, great improvements made so far....

Hmm actually MobileChat is working fine for me and the big advantage it has over the others is that it keeps you logged on for longer than 5 minutes and sends you alerts via text or email when someone im's you when the app isnt open, the closest thing to push alerts we have now

Yeah, but if you check the front page, you'll see that 2.1 is coming with push+other "surprise" features on the 9th.... So MC will be pretty much pointless in T-Minus 2 days, 21 hours, 20 minutes, 44 seconds

you're one of the lucky ones. if you look at the most recent reviews on the app store, they are all one star reviews. just goes to show that the app is still not working, even for the people who have just purchased it.

and i just looked at their blogs today for the first time in a while, and apparently they DO NOT want anyone posting complaints or problems that they might be having with MC in the public comments section of any blog posts anymore. They state that they will delete such posts. Gee i wonder why. They claim that they already know the issues and problems, so there is no need to post them. Apparently they want you to file private trouble tickets or whatever. I guess they only want the fan boys to post glowing comments and praises. One month out and they haven't posted one single application update to fix any bugs on the client side whatsoever. Incredulous

Thanks for this Rojo :) I too can't stand MobileChat so just used your guide to let Apple know.

They have submitted an update to Apple (according to MC Developers anyway) it's not their fault Apple is slow with it. They took forever approving the app the first time so it isn't a surprise it's taking a long time this time around. By the way I am also one of the lucky few that can actually get MC running. When it's working it is the best IM client for the iPhone they just need to fix the stability issues.

this is an outright lie. they only submitted the 3.1 update on aug 29th which was just a week ago. the whole "we're going to fast track and switch the 3.0.1 to 3.1 update" was just more BS from the developers.

so this has absolutely nothing to do with apple and everything to do with the fact that the mobilechat devs have no idea what they're doing whatsoever. a hell of a lot more needs to be fixed than just 'stability issues'.
